The mayor of San Javier Jose Miguel Luengo, accompanied by the councilor of Social Services, Estíbaliz Masegosa, collected yesterday in Santander the seal of recognition as "Child Friendly City" (CAI), which UNICEF has granted to the San Javier City Council.
The delivery took place at an event held at the Paraninfo Magdalena de Santander where UNICEF granted the CAI Recognition stamp to 55 municipalities that obtain it for the first time, such as San Javier, in addition to renewing it to another 25 municipalities.
A total of 44 consistories, associations, foundations or schools collected prizes for their good practices.
José Miguel Luengo said that this recognition granted by Unicef ​​to the City of San Javier "is a true commitment to the rights of the children of San Javier, which we will give voice and participation with their contributions in our government decisions."
Luengo also expressed his commitment to "the local dissemination of the Convention on the Rights of the Child."
The Convention on the Rights of the Child is the origin of this program recalled the president of UNICEF Spanish Committee, Carmelo Angulo, who recalled in his speech that the CAI Recognition "is more than a seal, a political and social commitment to children in between long term".
Also speaking was the Assistant Director-General for Children of the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, Regina Mañueco who recalled the institutional and financial support of the Government of Spain to UNICEF's CAI program, which he said is "an emblematic figure of Child participation, "promoted by the local administration, which plays an" essential "role in promoting such participation and as a guarantor of the fulfillment of their rights, but also in order for children to acquire values ​​of" responsible, tolerant and supportive citizenship ".
