The victims of traffic accidents and accidents on the road have been the main themes of the Road Safety Day that has been held all morning in the plenary hall of the City of San Javier organized by the Department of Security of the City of San Javier and the Association of Victims of Trafficking in the Region of Murcia.
A hundred people, mostly Police officers, Civil Guard, Emergency personnel, students and professionals whose work is related to the accidents attended the day inaugurated by the Mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, the Provincial Chief of Traffic , Virginia Jerez, President of the International Organization of Road Accidentology, Raimundo García and the president of the Association of Traffic Victims of the Region of Murcia, José Francisco Alcolea.
Raising social awareness about road safety and minimizing traffic accidents was the ultimate objective of the Conference which emphasized the treatment of victims at the first moment of professional intervention as well as after-care Affected by traffic accidents that in economic terms represent an annual expense equal to 2% of GDP, said José Francisco Alcolea.
A total of seven speakers addressed the rights of victims, and the new legislation in that regard, as well as the psychological aspects to be taken into account before a person who has been the victim of a traffic accident.
The morning has also given to address issues such as quality in managing road safety, and issues to take into account in safety prevention in the scene of an accident.
The Provincial Traffic Chief, Virginia Jerez who spoke as rapporteur to analyze the accident in the Region of Murcia, said that although much work remains to be done, Spain is currently ranked 5th in the world in improving its road safety.
The head of Traffic in the Region of Murcia pointed out the need for the involvement of both administrations, entities and citizens, at a particular level, to improve traffic safety "because alone we are not going anywhere."
The Councilor for Road Safety, María Teresa Foncuberta closed the day together with the general director of Citizen Security and Emergencies, Manuel Durán and the General Director of Roads, José Antonio Fernández.
