San Javier will be one of the three venues, together with the city of Murcia and the Campus of Espinardo, of the Spanish University Championships of Handball, Futsal, Wrestling and Rugby 7, organized by the University of Murcia.
Specifically, San Javier will host the Fight Championship on 21 and 22 April.
The mayor of San Javier Jose Miguel Luengo who attended the presentation of the championships together with the rector of the UMU, José Orihuela and the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta in the building of Convalencia, headquarters of the Rector, thanked the UMU "for Have thought of San Javier to host this event "and assured that" we will give the best of us, as always, to ensure its success. Luengo recalled the extensive experience that the municipality has in the organization of events, regional, national and international, throughout the year and said that "we will always be willing to not miss any opportunity for our municipality."
The rector stressed the importance of UMU to university sports, which said that progress should be made in getting it to have more weight in curriculum development and in making sports practice compatible with studies.
Among the participating universities are, in addition to the three of the Region of Murcia, those of Valencia, Barcelona, ​​Polytechnic of Madrid, Basque Country, Extremadura, Oviedo and Complutense of Madrid
