The "Canto de los Mayos" will play again in the early morning of May 1 in the municipality of San Javier with the group of Choruses and Danzas Mar Menor de San Javier and the Department of Culture of the City of San Javier that come together to maintain A Murcian tradition dating back two thousand years.
Although of pagan origin, these celebrations acquired a greater religious sense from the century XVII and although it is celebrated of different ways, in the orchard of Murcia is characterized by a musical group that dedicates religious songs to the Virgin as well as in the crosses and Altars that traditionally are built in houses and neighborhoods.
In the case of San Javier the "Mayos" will start from the parish church of San Francisco Javier at 6:30 pm starting a tour that passes through "Jacinta's private house" at 7:15 p.m.
Los Alcazares at 8:15 p.m.
The Mirador at 9:15 p.m.;
Pozo Aledo at 10:15 p.m.;
San Cayetano at 23:15 and La Grajuela at 00: 15h.
Councilor for Culture David Martinez thanked the local group of Choirs and Dances and especially its president Salvador Carrasco "his firm commitment to the maintenance of traditions so as not to lose traditions as old as the Song of the Mayos."
Martínez reiterated the support of the Department of Culture to this initiative "which enters us in the month of flowers and becomes the preamble of the Folklore Festival to be held in mid-June."
