The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, together with the mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, attended today to commemorate International Family Day with the celebration of the intergenerational project 'Sumando Ganamos Todos', which proposes to take An exchange of experiences between young and old, "very enriching for both parties."

The meeting was attended by the elderly and people with disabilities of the day centers of the Association of Relatives of Persons with Mental Illness of the Mar Menor (Afemar) and of the day centers of the Association for the Integration of the Disabled of the Comarca del Mar (Aidemar), the Association for Disabled Persons of the National Police (Fundamifp), as well as young people from the IES Mar Menor.

Violante Tomás said that "we want to raise awareness of the importance of their contribution to society."

In addition, he explained that "it is an intergenerational intervention that also helps to promote active aging".

The counselor referred to the origin of this initiative and noted that "the good results obtained in a pilot project of Murcia with university students encouraged us to take it to other centers of older, because the elderly have much to teach us."

In the social centers of older people dependent on the Murcian Institute of Social Action (IMAS), various intergenerational activities of social and community interaction are taking place, such as cafés, debates, cinema-fora, round tables, workshops and monographic meetings.
