San Javier will save more than 20,000 euros per year in the energy bill for the La Manga wastewater pumping stations. The audit carried out on these facilities, within the framework of the ELENA-Fuensanta project coordinated by the Community, propose (17/05/2017)

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Employment gives this report to the City Council, which has already carried out audits in public lighting and in seven municipal buildings

The energy audit carried out by the Community through the Instituto de Fomento in six sewage pumping stations in La Manga proposes a series of actions that would allow the City of San Javier to save more than 20,000 euros per year in the electric bill, Which represents 22.58 percent of its current bill.

The energy efficiency measures included in this audit, within the framework of the European Local Energy Assistance (ELENA-Fuensanta) project, would generate a reduction in energy consumption of 195,169 kWh per year (61.13% of current consumption). In turn would mean a reduction of emissions of polluting gases of 7.8 tons of CO2 per year.

The secretary general of the Ministry of Employment, Universities and Business, María Casajús, delivered today the results of these studies to the mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo and assured that "both the regional government and municipalities, through the Pact of Mayors, are fully committed to the fight against climate change and the achievement of the objectives set in the Europe 2020 agenda. It is also a firm commitment that translates, thanks to tools such as the ELENA-Fuensanta project, into adoption Of energy efficiency measures that have a direct effect, both in reducing energy consumption and in emissions of polluting gases. "

The energy audit carried out at La Manga pumping stations indicates measures such as improving facilities with the optimization of electrical supplies or the incorporation of modern remote management systems applied to the installations.

The project involves a first phase, with an investment of 276,878 euros, which would address the most urgent measures with a direct effect on the energy consumption of the stations, such as switching from pumping equipment to more efficient ones.

Overall, the actions taken in the audits would involve a total investment of 1,719,740 euros.

This audit of the energy performance of the La Manga sewage pumping station network is in addition to the two carried out in seven public buildings in the town and in the public lighting system, which are also part of the ELENA-Fuensanta project .

In total, all the energy efficiency measures included in these three audits would mean an economic saving of more than one million euros for the City of San Javier.

17.7 million investment

The European project ELENA-Fuensanta is an initiative of the Region of Murcia funded by the European Commission to fight against climate change and to advance in the Europe 20-20-20 strategy.

This strategy, in particular, sets the horizon of achieving a 20 percent savings in energy consumption by 2020, as well as a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and achieving 20 Percent of the energy consumed comes from renewable sources.

At present, and through the 24 collaboration agreements signed with 16 municipalities in the Region, the project has allowed the mobilization of an investment of more than 17.7 million euros.

Thus, the project has already surpassed the goal set by Europe to mobilize 15 million euros in investments and will mean a saving in the medium term of more than two million euros, which will also allow the creation of more than 300 posts Of work in the Region.

"It should not be forgotten that about 80 percent of the CO2 emissions to the atmosphere come from the cities, so the involvement and awareness of the city councils is crucial in the fight against climate change." The City of San Javier Is demonstrating its commitment, and thanks to these audits we will be able to know the energy performance of the municipality, information that allows in turn to design appropriate measures to reduce energy consumption and emissions of polluting gases and boost renewable energy, Concluded the secretary general of the Ministry of Employment, Universities and Enterprise.
