The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo received this morning at the City Council of Santiago de la Ribera, Carlos Martínez after being proclaimed European Champion Laser Master in the championship held in Fouesnant, in French Brittany, from 10 to 15 June.
José Miguel Luengo congratulated Carlos Martinez on behalf of the City of San Javier for this new title that adds to his long career as a regattista and thanked him to bear the name of both the Club de Regatas de Santiago de la Ribera, which represents, as the Municipality and the Mar Menor to the championship played in France among 200 boats from 20 countries.
Carlos Martinez thanked the congratulations especially for being a personal effort as he competes as an amateur as he explained during the meeting in which he showed his satisfaction to win a Championship that led from the first day and found a favorable weather.
Carlos Martínez highlighted the benefits of the Mar Menor to practice sailing, a sport in which he started as a child with an optimist, obtaining his first titles in children and gaining strength in the competition with national and world titles in different classes.
In his stage of competition he was part of the Olympic sailing team at the Barcelona Olympics.
In the last years, he still practices and competes although in the amateur plane.
Its relationship with the Real Club de Regatas de Santiago de la Ribera now includes the care and promotion of sport among the bases to promote children's teams of competition taking advantage of the advantage of having the Mar Menor.
