San Javier will once again participate in the summer campaign of Ecovidrio, which has been called "Take note, recycle glass", in which a total of 110 bars and restaurants in the municipality have been involved.
Like other years, Ecovidrio, the non-profit entity in charge of managing the recycling of glass packaging waste in the municipality, takes advantage of the summer to increase recycling taking advantage of the increase in hotel consumption, which at this time generates almost 50 % Of glass packaging waste.
The 110 establishments participating in this campaign, which has always managed to increase the volume collected, will receive cubes adapted to facilitate the work of recycling to employees.
The campaign also includes an increase of glass recycling points in addition to those already existing on public roads, many of which will be linked with summer grounds to sensitize citizens.
The Councilor for the Environment, Antonio Martínez who attended the presentation of the campaign in Murcia, along with representatives of other coastal municipalities participating in it, highlighted the commitment of the hotel industry that generates a large amount of this type of waste, especially in summer.
Antonio Martínez reported that according to data from 2016, citizens of San Javier recycled a total of 891,960 kilos of glass, which means that each inhabitant recycled an average of 28.1kg well above the regional average that is at 15, 9 and national which stands at 16.2kg.
In San Javier it currently has a total of 237 iglúes for the collection of glass containers, which places it in an average of 134 inhabitants per container, also above the average that exceeds 200 inhabitants per container.
