The councilors of Health, Catalina Perez and Public Services María Dolores Ruiz today invited the population to follow the recommendations of the preventive campaign on the tiger mosquito launched by the Ministry of Health in the Region of Murcia.

The tiger mosquito, from Asia, is a species considered invasive by the World Health Organization and although its presence does not represent a plague at present, the councilor of Health recalled that small home gestures can help to avoid their proliferation in environments Household.

Catalina Perez advised to empty weekly containers that accumulate water, such as a potted dish, vases or a drinker;

Sealing containers that can not be emptied;

Put upside down containers that can collect rainwater;

Avoid accumulation of water in drains and gutters, apply bleach to disinfect them, and use fish in fountains or ornamental ponds as they devour the larvae.

The mayor Maria Dolores Ruiz gave a demonstration on how to make a homemade and ecological solution like a trap that can be realized with a plastic bottle of water, cutting it in two parts.

At the base of the bottle mix water, sugar and a fresh yeast tablet, capping it with the neck of the bottle facing down.

The trap is finally surrounded by something black and will be ready to attract mosquitoes that go for the carbon dioxide that also occurs with the breath and that is what makes the mosquitoes choose their victims.

The campaign, which aims to prevent them from reproducing, also remembers that the mosquito bites preferably at dusk and at dawn especially the legs and feet, so it is recommended to cover those areas with clothing, install mosquito nets and use repellents to prevent stings Before a situation of risk.

If the bite has already occurred, the main advice is to wash it and apply a disinfectant to the skin.

Although the tiger mosquito is potentially a transmitter of some diseases, it does not present a special danger because for this the mosquito would have to prick first a person infected by diseases that in Spain are mostly extinguished, so that bites of this type of mosquito do not Often cause major problems, although they are a little more annoying than common mosquitoes.
