The City Council of San Javier today celebrated World Alzheimer's Day together with the Association of Relatives Friends of Alzheimer's Disease and other pathologies, AFAL Cartagena and Comarca, which maintains an open headquarters in Santiago de la Ribera, in a local place from where offer professional support to those affected.
A manifesto read by Maria Diaz, a member and volunteer of the Association and an information stand in the Plaza de España in San Javier, have served to emphasize "a disease that is increasingly present in our society together with other neuro-degenerative diseases, "recalled the mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo.
Luengo defended a global strategy to address the disease that transcends the health field to the family and social environment "because it affects not only the people who suffer but all people who live closely.
The mayor recalled that the Town Hall plenary recently unanimously approved the municipality's adherence to "Solidarity Cities with Alzheimer's" and reiterated the commitment in "municipal support through associations whose work serves great daily help to patients, caregivers and families. "
AFAL has taken advantage of World Alzheimer's Day, which is celebrated under the motto "I am still me", to claim the prevention of dementia from a socio-sanitary perspective;
to promote scientific and social research in Alzheimer's disease, and to integrate caregivers and caregivers into care protocols as a risk population in social issues both during and after illness.
The association, which has 220 partners in the Cartagena area and has served more than 7,000 users since its inception in 1995, also claimed to consider the costs of the disease, advance towards early treatment, improve training for caregivers , professional and sanitary, and spaces for family respite and quality treatment for patients and relatives, among other things.
AFAL Cartagena and Comarca, offers its services in Santiago de la Ribera in the facilities of the first plant of the Center of Elderly people of the locality, located in the street Padre Juan.
