The 4th Route of the Sentinels, a solidarity race whose main objective is to give visibility to diabetes arrived today shortly before 14:00 to the plaza of Spain of San Javier, one of the municipalities collaborating with the initiative, where their participants were received by the mayor, José Miguel Luengo, Councilor for Sports, Estíbaliz Masegosa and Councilor of Celebrations, Pedro López, while recovering strength to continue
The race, in which eight riders participate, left at three in the morning of Torrevieja and with stops in 12 municipalities with a total of 98 kilometers traveled, is expected to arrive this afternoon at 18:00 in Cartagena where the riders are integrated in the Festivities of Romans and Carthaginians on the Punic Wall where they will be in charge of giving notice to the inhabitants of Qart Hadast of the arrival of the Romans in the battle for the defense of the city.
"This is a battle that only gains diabetes," says Javier Nieto, promoter of this initiative organized by the Diabetes Association of Cartagena and Comarca, Sodicar, which combines sport, diabetes and the Festivities of Carthaginians and Romans, the which is a passionate.
The race that is not competitive was also devised to raise funds through the sale of miles traveled.
This year, the proceeds will go to 50% to Diabetes CERO, an association of parents of diabetic children, for research in Type 1 diabetes, and a Diabetes and Sport Seminar to be held from 6 to 8 October at the Hotel Las Gaviotas de La manga del Mar menor, aimed at people with type 1 diabetes, from 18 to 50 years old who practice or want to practice sports safely knowing how to handle food, insulin and exercise.
