The Rural Women's Day to be held on 25 October in the plenary hall of the City Council of San Javier organized by the Council of Women and Equality, to mark the International Day of Rural Women, will be dedicated this year to the Mar Menor.
The Councilor for Women and Equality Estíbaliz Maseegosa who presented today the Day together with the regional secretary and responsible in the municipality of Coag-Ir Ceres, Water and Land, Maria Dolores Martinez explained that the day aims to "claim the importance of the Mar Menor with the rural woman of our municipality and their commitment to their recovery. "
The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo and the director general of the Mar Menor, Antonio Luengo will inaugurate the day at 09:30 to give way to the paper that will star the own director general on "The Rural Woman of the Mar Menor".
Afterwards all the participants will embark for a guided tour by the Mar Menor and Isla Grosa to finish a meal of coexistence in El Mirador.
Estíbaliz Masegosa pointed out that the Day tries to focus on the role of women in rural and agricultural areas for years, "although in this edition we will have a very maritime program because we wanted to emphasize the commitment to conservation of the lagoon expressed by women ".
María Dolores Martínez, the first farmer of the municipality with own exploitation, and general secretary of the association of women farmers in COAG, "Mujer y Tierra", in the Region of Murcia, stated that "the Mar Menor is part of our environment and we are the first ones we want to respect and care for. "
The Day will also serve to continue to demand greater equality between women and men in the agricultural world, such as the shared ownership that has already been achieved by a farmer in Yecla, and who places women on a level playing field in which figure as her husband.
María Dolores Martínez noted that the Region of Murcia is the second in Spain with a greater presence of women farmers with an average of 3.5 percent compared to 2.5 percent in the country as a whole.
In the municipality of San Javier, where she was a pioneer agriculturalist, she has advanced in recent years to the present time with 90 women among the 400 members with COAG-Ir in El Mirador.
