The Adoration of the Magi of the Baroque flamenco painter, Pedro Pablo Rubens, inspires this year the Christmas poster in San Javier whose program was announced today at the Salzillo Museum in Murcia by the Mayor of San Javier José Migue Luengo and the Councilor of Culture David Martinez in an act that had the participation of the general director of Cultural Assets, Juan Antonio Lorca, the director of the Museum, Teresa Marín and the president of its executive committee, Antonio Gómez-Fayrén.
The Magi Kings and the Epiphany of the Lord will star this year the Christmas setting of the Plaza de España, in San Javier where an interesting trienna belenística will be concentrated with the one known as "Belén de España" which celebrates its 50th anniversary with a complete renovation;
the exhibition "Jesús Griñán: El Belén made arte", by the well-known craftsman from Murcia, who will be in charge of proclaiming Christmas in San Javier on Saturday, December 16;
and the "Belén de la Marquesa", which can be visited in the hall of the Town Hall.
The main novelty of Christmas this year in the municipality will be the celebration of the 50th anniversary of one of the largest cribs in Europe, the "Bethlehem of Spain", which extends over 500 square meters.
The councilman of Culture David Martinez explained that its 1200 figures, artisans such as Jesus Griñán, Pedro Serrano, or the Cuenca family will look renewed after a long process of restoration;
In addition, all the architecture of the Bethlehem will be renewed, with new additions such as a sculptural group by Manuel Nicolás on the embalming and funeral procession of the Pharaoh, reported David Martínez.
The "Belen de la Marquesa", which can be visited a few meters away and which takes its name from the Marchioness of Corvera, who lived in the house on which the Town Hall was built, is a nativity scene of Neapolitan inspiration and sculptural aesthetics with exclusive pieces such as the camels that will be exhibited this year ceded by the association of nativity scenes of Benidorm, explained the mayor of Culture.
The visit will be completed with the exhibition "Jesus Griñán, the Bethlehem made art", inside the temple of San Francisco Javier, where you can admire the work of the Murcian craftsman with the different passages of the story of Jesus.
The Friends of Bethlehem Association of San Javier, which is characterized by its dedication to the crafts of the Bethlehem, works these days, both in the new Bethlehem of Spain and the Bethlehem of the Marquesa, as in the Santiago de la Ribera, another one of the great belenísticas attractions of the municipality, with a set of marked sailor and local character that is exhibited next to the Mar Menor in the Barnuevo esplanade.
To all of them are added the nativity scenes of La Manga, El Mirador and La Grajuela with those that make up a Ruta del Belén, which will be celebrated on December 30 with a visit set by the Mar Menor Choirs and Dances, departing from the Plaza de Spain.
In addition to the Bethlehem that capitalizes Christmas in the municipality, a wide program of family activities has also been programmed for the holidays, in different parts of the municipality with the participation of the councils of Culture, Youth, Celebrations and Commerce, in which there will be a "Zambomba Flamenca", puppet shows, theater, music, family cinema, magic workshops, storytelling, visits of Santa Claus, guided visits to the different cribs, activities such as bubble football on the beach, or a game of bowling giants, Christmas games, and even an old children's night in the morning in the Plaza de España in San Javier for December 31.
The feast of the Magi will arrive with several horseback rides, such as the Santiago de la Ribera, in which the Magi arrive by boat before touring the streets of the town, or the Epiphany with a show of light, music and fireworks Every year thousands of people are concentrated in San Javier until the authorities give the "Magic Key" to the Kings so they can fill the gift houses.
The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo referred to the anniversary of the Bethlehem of San Javier "that has already become an icon of Christmas for the entire Region" that will open on December 22 with a show in which the Band will participate Symphony of San Javier and the Patnia choir.
Luengo also thanked the work carried out by the San Javier nativity scene, who attended the event, to keep alive the great belenística tradition existing in the municipality.
