The Mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo has announced that the City Council will collaborate with the Hippocampus association in the dissemination of its work to raise awareness of the situation of the seahorse in the Mar Menor as well as the progress of studies and initiatives undertaken by this association for the defense of this and other related species.
Accompanied by José Luis Alcaide, member of the Hippocampus association with whom he met at the Town Hall, the mayor of San Javier announced a campaign on beaches during the next summer in which Hippocampus staff will make the public aware of the precarious situation of the horse sea ​​in the lagoon, as well as talks and conferences in different areas, with which the need to safeguard the seahorse and other endangered species will be emphasized.
During the meeting, in which it was agreed to continue deepening the mutual collaboration, José Luis Alcaide informed the mayor about the work carried out by the association as the visual censuses that allow to calculate a 70% decrease of the seahorse in the Mar Menor during The last two years.
Alcaide highlighted the collaboration with the Natural Environment of the Autonomous Community and transferred to the mayor the main needs of the association to continue advancing in the defense of this emblematic species of the Mar Menor.
