The mayor José Miguel Luengo and the Councilor for Health Catalina Pérez met this morning with representatives of different veterinary clinics in the municipality to address different lines of collaboration on the implementation of various actions related to the possession of pets.
The Councilor for Health Catalina Pérez stressed the importance of having veterinary professionals for their practical knowledge of pets and their care when it comes to informing society about the new regional regulations established by the Law on Protection and Defense of Pets. Animals of Company recently approved in the Regional Assembly.
The actions of awareness and information that are intended to be developed in the municipality will be related to the responsible possession of pets and other aspects contemplated by the new Law related to adoption, sanitary controls, sterilization, mutilation and euthanasia as well as the forms of identification of the companion animals and the creation of an autonomous registry.
The new autonomic legislation prohibits the sacrifice and mistreatment of animals, the type to the pigeon, and the circuses in the case of exhibiting wild beasts.
Penalties are increased significantly with fines ranging from a minimum of 100 euros for the slightest offense to 30,000 for the most serious cases, such as organizing and holding fights between animals.
