In relation to the actions of beach preparation that are being carried out in Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga del Mar Menor, facing Holy Week, the City of San Javier reports that:
All actions are carried out with the authorizations and regulatory conditions of the Coastal Demarcation and the Office of Socioeconomic Promotion of the Environment, OISMA, dependent on the General Directorate of the Natural Environment.
The actions consist in the recovery of the sand from the beach that the rains and strong winds of winter drag to the seabed near the shore.
The sand is cordoned off on the beach for a dry time, to extend it, to grow it and to extend it again in the areas most in need.
These works are performed with tractor and scraper, which are the most respectful with the seabed, since it is a sand remangue that does not modify or alternate the seabed.
As established by the conditions of the competent bodies, the actions are carried out under the supervision of a biologist, through the company C & C Medioambiente, specialized in marine environment.
The biologist performs a study prior to any action, which marks the areas where it can not be operated due to the presence of marine phanerogams.
In addition, the biologist oversees the execution of the works, being present during them to ensure their proper development, and once the sand recovery action is over, supervises the area to guarantee the restoration of landscape quality and the maintenance of the marine ecosystem, during At least one year
The actions previously approved by the environmental technician are being carried out outside the breeding season of the avifauna and ichthyofauna species of interest, in the shortest possible time, and in any case before March 31, since the losses Winter temperatures ensure that the ecosystem's metabolism is low.
Likewise and in order to act with the maximum guarantee, it has the anti-turbulence barriers that have been provided by the Nautical Club of Santiago de la Ribera and the sports port Tomás Maestre, of La Manga del Mar Menor for use during work in sections where there might be silt or mud.
The actions are those of conditioning beaches for the Holy Week that after the winter are affected by the loss of sand, taking into account the scarce sand with the beaches of the Mar Menor, due to the rains and winds that they drag them to the seabed near the shore.
These actions are being carried out at Colón Beach, in Santiago de la Ribera, and Veneziola, Playa Chica, El Pedrucho, El Galán and Playa Leveche, in La Manga del Mar Menor.
All the actions have the regulatory authorizations and adjust to all the requirements that the competent organisms impose for their realization, with the direct supervision of an expert biologist in marine environment.
