The children of the Child Care Point, PAI, "Mar de Colores", of El Mirador, already know why El Mirador is called "La huerta de Europa".
During the last weeks they have worked on a large mural, which can already be seen at the entrance of the center under the title "El Mirador, huerta de Europa", where recycled materials reproduce both typical infrastructures of the local landscape and the greenhouses, as well as a wide representation of the vegetables grown in El Mirador.
The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo and the councilman of Agriculture, Sergio Martinez visited the center today to learn about this project that familiarizes children with what in many cases is the very occupation of their families, since many of them are they dedicate themselves to agriculture, and with that the importance of vegetables and fruits for a healthy diet is emphasized.
The activity was completed with a plantation in the school garden of the center and the delivery of a passport to each child as "Great farmers of the garden of Europe".
Sergio Martinez recalled the campaign carried out by the City Council to raise awareness of the reality of agriculture in the municipality where it generates 3,500 jobs a year, and noted that initiatives like this also contribute to show a sector that is part of the landscape of the area and to which hundreds of families from our municipality dedicate themselves, especially in El Mirador.
Martínez thanked the center for its work in making this information reach the little ones in a playful and fun way.
