The EOI de San Javier participate in a mobility Tralee (Kerry, Ireland) (28/02/2011)

The Official Language School of San Javier, represented by three of their teachers: Elvira Carralero Lafont, M ª Angeles Martínez-Abarca Nicolás and Antonio Maojo Youl, participated, from 16 to 20 February, at the sixth meeting of the project "Intercultural Dialogue to Develop a European Identity Among Member States ", a Grundtvig project, begun in 2008, with 7 partners from 6 countries: Spain, Ireland, France, Finland, Poland and the Czech Republic.

Together we form a learning partnership which aims to improve relationships within the European Union to address the issue of intercultural dialogue.

The meeting took place in Tralee, Ireland, a town of 20,000 inhabitants located on the west coast of the island in County Kerry.

The host was KADE (Kerry Action for Development Education), an organization involved in improving education at all levels.

At this meeting, members provided practical exercises developed to date, as the end product of the learning partnership is a resource bank for use in class.

The EOI de San Javier made a presentation on its activities which included an activity called "A Business Conference" and "Intercultural Encounters."

As expected, the activities of the EOI de San Javier have a pragmatic approach to the teaching of languages.

Therefore have a dual objective: to educate the students about the importance of the cultural component in language teaching and practical exercises in class to improve language skills of the same.

Besides the presentation of material and details of project management, the partners participated in practical exercises for intercultural dialogue with groups at risk of social exclusion.

KADE hosts workshops with women's social group of Travellers.

Thus we see first hand the work in the field of intercultural dialogue with these women is being implemented to combat xenophobia and misunderstanding within Ireland, and as they try to improve the understanding of their lifestyle.

The partners also participate in a workshop against racism presented by a group of immigrants from Uganda and Zimbabwe.

Finally, prominent members of the local community we began to raise awareness of the national footprint of Ireland Gaelic practical classes and lessons in local history.

The balance of the visit has been very positive.

Cooperation between partners has been very successful and we've got momentum for the final project because there are only two more mobility: a France in the French Pyrenees near Lourdes, and another to Helsinki, Finland.

The EOI de San Javier is committed to the dissemination of the project and will inform the educational community of the Murcia Region of developments and current status.
