Eric Burdon received the Award of the Festival Jazz San Javier in honor of his career (21/07/2011)

Eric Burdon, one of the top 100 singers of all time, according to Rolling Stone, received the prize morning of the fourteenth edition of the Festival International de Jazz de San Javier, in honor of his career, after the expected concert given in Almansa Park auditorium accompanied by The Animals, his band of a lifetime.

"The House of the Rising Sun" or "Do not Let Me Be Misunderstood" are emblematic titles of Eric Burdon, English Newcastle with 70 years behind young intact attitude toward life and music.

The rock, funk-rock, and blues that Eric Burdon defined as "an expression of the soul" beyond technique, form the environment in which it has moved this legendary musician, founder of the groundbreaking band "The Animals" in the 60's.

After multiple changes in the formation of The Animals, Eric Burdon moved to America where he joined the funky group of Los Angeles, "War," with whom he recorded classics like "Tobacco Road" or "Spill the Wine" before starting his solo career in the early 70's.

Eric Burdon, a friend of Jimmy Hendrix, with whom he spent the hours before his death, he has led several bands since then while recording, with a discography of 28 titles until 2006 when he published "Soul of a Man."

Now, with another version of The Animals including Terry Wilson (bass), Billy Watts (guitar), Red Young (keyboards) and Brannen Temple (drums), San Javier Jazz back to where he looks after the magnificent True Devotion concert he gave in the eighth edition of the Festival.

John Scofield, who will play in the first part of the night, is one of the guitarists indispensable contemporary jazz, whose career of four decades confirms his mastery not only in jazz, but blues, R & B, funk, rock, and even as demonstrated in his gospel album "Piety Street" (2009) who recorded with musicians in New Orleans.

John Scofield who began his career working with the vibraphonist Gary Burton and has played with the great Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, George Duke, and Pat Metheny, among many others, comes to San Javier Jazz with his latest and recent album "A Moments Peace" which returns to the acoustic format, retrieving items from Billie Holiday, Abbey Lincoln, Nina Simone and John Coltrane, with 5 original compositions and 2 versions like the song "I Will" by Lennon-McCartney .

His debut in San Javier Jazz is truly luxurious, with a band full of stars which contains Mulgrew Miller on piano, Bill Stewart, one of the best jazz drummers in the XXI century, and the bassist Scott Colley magnifici.
