The Department of Parks and Gardens fumigated the palm trees of Paseo Colon Santiago de la Ribera at night from the morning of Wednesday July 26th at 02:00 h.
The fumigation work, which will last for 3 or 4 nights following, shall be final at 08:30 h, in order to avoid the concentration of people.
From the Department reported that the active compounds used in fumigation are authorized for use in public parks so they are of no danger to people who do should be informed of this to increase their security.
Fumigation treatment complements the new Endo that is being applied to the palm trees of Paseo Colon, Spain Square and Parque Almansa, against the red palm weevil.
It is an injection system in the trunk of the palm, which is harmless to both the environment and people.
The endo, which has been used experimentally San Javier has worked well in the municipality where it has been achieved partly mitigate the impact of red palm weevil, such as the Paseo Colon, which has one of the palm of promenades best preserved against the ravages caused in other areas by this deadly insect.
Councillor Parks and Gardens, Celia Martinez said the effort being made by the City Council to safeguard our palms like the boardwalk and private owners reminded of their obligation to keep the palm, preventing infections by periodic treatments and avoid pruning in spring and winter as the freshly cut branches attract adult red palm weevil.
