The Department of Parks and Gardens has launched an innovative treatment against red palm weevil, which combines root injections in the air and spraying a substance whose composition is safe for both applicators thereof, and for park users and gardens as well as for the natural environment.
The municipality of San Javier is the first test of the region in which this treatment works council oversaw the implementation of the Environment, Agriculture and Parks and Gardens, Celia Martinez, along with the Technical Municipal Parks and Gardens.
The mayor is Dr. Celia Martinez agronomist, said that the first test was carried out in palm trees with higher risk of infection because of its variety and youth.
Depending on the outcome, expected positive, treatment is extended to the rest of the population of palm trees in the municipality.
Today, the fight against red palm weevil in the municipality of San Javier which is carried out from the Department of Parks and Gardens is giving generally good results since the protocol in place has managed to keep the public free of palm trees plague, and even save a copy affected.
Councillor Celia Martinez added, however, since his department is working continuously on this issue "to get to keep the palm so characteristic of our town, while innovating with the latest treatments resulting from the research sector" .
Also, from the Department of Parks and Gardens continues to insist on the cooperation of citizens to fight the plague, so owners asking citizens not to prune palm trees in the summer and spring and remove the infected specimens that no longer meet the present solution protocol established by the Department and the Plant Protection Service of the Autonomous Region of Murcia.
