Antideshaucios Commission of the City of San Javier has collected a total of 1,346 kilos of products during the "First Campaign collection of nonperishable food, personal hygiene and cleanliness", held from 29 July to 2 August.
All products listed have been donated to Caritas of San Javier and Santiago de la Ribera for distribution to families in need of help.
The initiative was proposed by the Platform Stop Evictions Mar Menor in the City Commission Antideshaucios the part along with local political groups, Caritas, and the departments of Social Services and Consumer Affairs.
The product collection was carried out at three different points served by volunteers of the institutions involved, as well as in the weekly markets of San Javier and Santiago de la Ribera, and had the cooperation of the Department of Volunteering, the business association San Javier and the Eroski supermarket.
The organizers thanked the cooperation of citizens and the participation of volunteers who have worked on the campaign and announced similar initiatives in order to continue helping families with financial difficulties through Caritas.
Antideshaucios Commission of the City of San Javier, which was established in early 2013, has as its ultimate goal helps families affected and maintains various lines of action open.
Since the Commission is working with banks to try to get a social rent for families avoiding eviction, and has initiated an amendment to the city ordinance that prevents the affected taxing capital gains.
It has also requested a meeting in the courts to address the suspension of foreclosure cases, and has contacted the Federation of Municipalities in order to determine whether there are other similar commissions in the region with which to establish a collaboration .
