The director general of Instituto Murciano Seniors Social Action (IMAS), Enrique Pérez, today participated in events organized by professionals and users of the Day Centre in San Javier which today celebrates its 11 years of operation.
Today, the Day Centre IMAS San Javier is managed by the Messengers of Peace Foundation and has 20 places for dependent older people offering comprehensive care tailored to the needs of its users.
In this act, the CEO of Seniors was accompanied by professionals, users and their relatives and stressed the importance to foster contact and retention of older people in their home environment enabling the reconciliation of work and family life.
Perez said that the activities of leisure and recreation are a stimulus for seniors and to preserve their level of autonomy by preventing or delaying the deterioration of their skills.
In this regard, he recalled the commitment of the IMAS by an active and healthy aging.
Also appreciated the daily work of professionals in the Day Centre and which, he said, "is essential to prevent addiction and to establish strategies and therapeutic interventions to prevent temporarily the institutionalization of the elderly in residential character."
At present, the IMAS has a total of 962 public spaces distributed by different municipalities of the Autonomous Community to facilitate contact and stay in the family, so that they do not deteriorate bonding and to support families in the care of dependents.
