The mayor of San Javier, Juan Martinez has defended the need to support sustainable development, and promote environmental values ​​in society as a way to preserve the environment for the benefit of future generations, while reading the manifesto of World Environment Day Environment.

The Department of Environment has today organized an eco-market with food stalls, accessories, soaps and other products, made of craft and respectful to the environment.
Children from schools who have visited the market along with the morning especially enjoyed weaving workshop where they have seen up close the process of obtaining silk thread from the cocoons, presoaked in water high temperature.
With his hand and helped by a rudimentary wooden clockwork, 2,000 meters fine silk thread obtained by each cocoon before the butterfly emerges, but also those that are already open can be exploited to obtain a less valuable but equally valid thread like demonstrated "in situ" the spinner.
The kids got to see and experiment with the looms to complete the process to obtain a fabric made from the threads drawn from the cocoons of silkworms, a cottage industry, the silk, which became very important in the garden of Murcia, but has not survived the technological advances.
These activities are part of the extensive program organized by the Department of Environment throughout the week to mark World Environment Day.
