The Councillor for the Environment, Antonio Luengo, today received the award of the "environmental education initiatives at the municipal level", awarded to the City of San Javier, in the seventh edition of the Sustainable Development Awards granted by the Ministry of Agriculture and water companies, organizations, institutions and individuals for the promotion of initiatives to improve the environment.

Luengo collected the award which was presented by the Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, in the auditorium of the Department, accompanied by former Councillor for the Environment San Javier, and current CEO of Innovation and Research, Celia Martinez, head of the local Environmental awarded during the stage.

The jury, composed of representatives of universities, and organizations representing the economic and social activity in the region, stressed "the wide variety of campaigns and activities" sponsored by the City of San Javier throughout the past year in education and awareness have been from the school setting to the beaches of the town during the summer, with the goal of making the entire community see the need to be responsible in caring for the environment.

The Department of Environment of the City of San Javier annually develops a wide

environmental education programming through initiatives of various kinds ranging from children's theater to lectures, competitions, markets, and coppice, among many others, on issues related to waste water, renewable energy, sustainable mobility, organic gardens, sustainable consumption, and political and social commitments as representing the implementation of Local Agenda 21, and the Covenant of Mayors.

The Councillor for the Environment, Antonio Luengo said at the end of the awards ceremony, "the honor that this award represents collected by the municipality of San Javier is a recognition that constant work, I'll keep pushing from the council" and stressed the work of his predecessor, Celia Martinez, who stressed the importance of education and influence social awareness on an issue that affects everyone and we can all act as care for the environment.

Martinez said the work on environmental education Technique Department, Milagros Villaescusa also attended the ceremony.
