Hundreds of People took today at the weekly market of Santiago de la Ribera a funnel that facilitates the transfer of used cooking oil in a plastic bottle that must be deposited in one of the orange containers, which are installed in different municipalities, for recycling.
The Sigoleo Foundation in collaboration with the Department of Environment of the City of San Javier deployed an awareness campaign, using the concentration of people in the market, to encourage the recycling of used oil, as well as from cans, which It included free distribution of orange funnel.
Manuel Romero, president of Sigoleo, a foundation that is responsible for raising awareness and placing containers of used oil collection in the municipality, explained that prevent oil goes down the drain reduces pollution and water purification costs, and avoid jams in pipes.
It also has other effects, said Manuel Romero, as the reduction of rodents and insects in the sewers, which proliferate attracted to fats bearing the used oil.
In the municipality of San Javier, where they were collected 4.825litros used oil in 2014, it has 36 collection points in orange containers, placed in areas of affluence as near to supermarkets and the Publia way.
The collected oil is recycled by authorized and specialist companies and reused for biodiesel plants.
