The Minister of Education and Universities Maria Isabel Sanchez-Mora today visited San Javier where he met with the mayor, José Miguel Luengo and part of his team to address the educational situation in the city, before visiting the school premises "Severo Ochoa" which he praised as "an example of school integration".
After the meeting, which was held at City Hall, the Minister of Education and Universities, Maria Isabel Sanchez Mora announced their engagement in 2017 to start the redevelopment of the IES "Mar Menor", on a plot adjacent to existing facilities It was donated by the city of San Javier to the Ministry for this purpose.
The extension of the IES "Mar Menor" aims concentration of all the teachings of training courses, as some are being given in the building of the Conservatory of Music, which will allow the City Council to extend the classrooms of the Conservatory, which is another our needs, said Mayor Jose Miguel Luengo.
The mayor also said that the meeting "has moved to the minister's demands and needs expressed by the addresses of schools and colleges and has been requested in San Javier implementation of new courses in vocational training courses with the hospitality and tourism industries, given the nature of our municipality. "
After the meeting which was attended by the Councillor for Education, Catalina Perez and several councilors of the government team, they moved to CEIP "Severo Ochoa" of San Javier, the center chosen by the Minister of Education and Universities to visit in San Javier and to which I gave the example of integration and educational development.
The school Severo Ochoa, who has won several national awards and has been part of which was chosen as one of the best Comenius, the European Union has about 250 students of which 82 percent are foreigners.
Greeted by a group of children welcomed them, and accompanied by the center's director, Isabel Martinez and the head teacher, Maria Carmen Espin, the mayor and the minister visited the school premises including treasure room where multiple awards and trophies that have achieved "thanks to the involvement of the whole team," said the center's director who has applied for inclusion in the program of priority action centers.
The inclusion of the center in this program will allow advantages such as having more teachers, reduce class size ratio and have school programs such as speech therapy, among others.
The Minister and the mayor agreed to congratulate the entire school faculty not only for his work as integration with high percentages of foreign children, but for their recognized by awards and distinctions obtained educational attainment years.
