The Minister of Tourism and Consumer Affairs, Jose Pablo Ruiz Abellán, accompanied by the mayor of San Javier, Josefa García, attended today's opening of bike lanes in the municipality.
This road is 6 miles long, running from the area Polideportivo de San Javier to Santiago de la Ribera, through two institutes, the Faculty of Sports Science, University of Murcia and the Club Nautico de Santiago de la Ribera.
The bike lane has had an operating budget of 402,000 euros, has an average width of two meters, dyed red with a green security bollards separating it from the rest of the road, ensuring even more, the cyclist safety.
It also has road markings along the entire route and vertical intersections.
At the event, Ruiz Abellán stressed that "the Ministry of Tourism and Consumer Affairs, through the Tourist Consortium of the Mar Menor, has developed a feasibility plan to assess the social cost and techno-economic feasibility of the connection through a lane bicycle, in the different towns and districts of the Mar Menor. "
This infrastructure, which would be unique in the country, would cost 3.2 million euros and would allow the connection of San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Los Alcazares, Los Nietos, Los Urrutias, Islas Menores, Mar de Cristal, Playa Honda, La Manga, also contribute to enhancing the promotion of the place of the Mar Menor.
With this stretch of San Javier is intended to continue the bicycle network connection that has already begun to develop different municipalities, such as Los Alcazares, whose bike lane was opened a few weeks ago, thus fulfilling the desire of the Ministry to encourage alternative means of transport policies in response to environmental sustainability.
Continuing with the purpose of promoting the Mar Menor, themed tours will be created by connecting cultural attractions, shopping and sports leisure.
