Santiago de la Ribera has a street named today one of its most beloved and respected neighbors, José Mateo Pardo, who also earned the Silver Medal and the appointment of Son de la Villa de San Javier, who was posthumously in 1988.
The mayor of San Javier, Pepa Garcia, the widow and daughters of José Pardo Mateo, family and friends have opened this morning the plate with his name in the old College Street, next to the school, "Fulgencio Ruiz, Santiago de la Ribera, a village where he was born and lived José Mateo.
In an emotional ceremony, the Mayor Pepa Garcia recalled the intense activity throughout his life took a José Mateo participating in the development and progress of its people getting involved in neighborhood associations, parents, celebrations, as a founding member and member of the management committee of the center "Prince of Asturias, or of the committee first centenary of the church of Santiago de la Ribera, as well as the Brotherhood of Santiago and San Blas.
He also worked for his people from the City where he was councilman from 1972 to 1982.
Pepa García has also emphasized the human side of which was a legendary local merchant in his business known as "Pepito News", where "I teach all young at the time the art of fishing with his advice when came to buy his store. "
The Mayor pointed out "the sympathy aroused by all villagers, for which even acted as a sort of wise counsel, when they came to him" and "competence, integrity and proven in everything he undertook."
The mayor of San Javier, Pepa García has said that this appointment, along with Bartholomew street cloths which opens this afternoon, "is a fully-deserved tribute to two very dear neighbors in her village as evidenced by their request through of various local associations that have addressed the City Council requesting that their names appear on the street of Santiago de la Ribera. "
