The Municipal Library of San Javier has a cultural mediator whose role is to foster the relationship between the library as a service and users, mainly foreigners.
This new resource that the library has come from the project "Libraries for All", launched by the Directorate General for Books, Archives and Libraries and developed jointly by the Regional Library and the Association Columbares Murcia, which has joined the City of San Javier.
The project has been presented this morning at San Javier by Mayor Pepa García, coordinator of the Antonio Almagro, and Malo de Molina Marisa mediator, whose main objective is to promote intercultural and help from the library to the social integration foreigners living in the municipality, as noted by the Mayor that it has referred the project as "integration and knowledge as it is carried out from a library."
In practice, as explained Antonio Almagro, this project has been initiated in 8 municipalities in the region and aims to reach the totality, will result in a change of image from the library with designs allusive to the new concept of multicultural library .
An important part of the project is for the mediator to work for 6 pm Monday to Friday at the center, coordinated with the library staff, to liaise with users giving them a share of that service, and collecting of these proposals and suggestions which may be incorporated into the center's program.
The project aims to transform the library into a center "live", including organizing a series of activities aimed at raising social awareness of other cultures as well as the development and publication of multilingual material, such as reading guides and catalogs, including others.
It also includes the provision of bibliographical and progressive of all kinds in all languages of the cultures present in the library users.
Marisa Malo de Molina, explained from her experience as a mediator in San Javier that this project has particular significance in the town where he found a large number of foreign users of the library that exceeds 50 percent, mostly North African and South American children issues ranging from education, but also adults of a wide range of nationalities, among which is increasing the number of partners.
