The mayor of San Javier, Pepa García delivered yesterday plate Angler of the Year, awarded by the City Council and the Party Commission of Santiago de la Ribera, Salvador Lucas, who was excited and surrounded by family, friends and neighbors as a tribute dedicated his life to the Mar Menor which has no secrets for this neighbor of Santiago de la Ribera which started in fishing with his father at age 16.
The tribute to the Angler of the Year was held after the procession of boats with the image of the Virgen del Carmen, which took place Sunday in the waters bordering the Mar Menor Santiago de la Ribera, a town that celebrates these days festivities in honor of St. James without forgetting the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of sailors and one of the oldest neighborhoods in town.
The procession of boats in which as usual was a tribute to the deceased fishermen, was preceded by the transfer of the image of the Virgin accompanied by the queens and ladies of honor of the holidays, and a group of women, the association of housewives who first wore suits for the occasion fishers putting a touch of color to this very traditional celebration in Santiago de la Ribera, which was followed by hundreds of residents both from boats and from shore.
