The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, today introduced the triathlon qualifier for the Youth Olympic Games Singapore 2010 and the European Cup del Mar Menor, which will be played on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September in San Javier, and will feature more than 200 participants from 31 countries.
Cruz was accompanied during the presentation by the First Deputy Mayor of San Javier, José Angel Noguera, president of the Triathlon Federation of Murcia, Diego Calvo, and the general director of Sports, Antonio Peñalver.

In total 31 countries will participate in this unique triathlon qualifier in Europe for the first edition of the Youth Olympic Games Singapore 2010.
In the Region will have nine seats in play throughout Europe for men and women, and each National Federation of Triathlon will have a maximum of one woman and one man in Singapore.
Participating countries are Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, France, UK, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Serbia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden and Ukraine.
The qualifier for the Youth Olympic Games will be held on sprint distance (750 meter swim in the Mar Menor, 20 kilometer bike and foot race five).
The women's race will begin at 10:00 am and men at 12:00.
The first nine athletes get tickets to their countries.
The Spanish team will consist of eight athletes, four women (Miriam Casillas, Anna Godoy, Mónica García and Judith Saizar) and four men (Robert Barral, David Castro, Jordi Garcia and Diego Paz, who were born between January 1, 1992 and December 31, 1993.
The European Cup del Mar Menor is the third to be played in Spain this year after Pontevedra (May 17) and Ferrol (June 14).
Participants will travel 1.5 km swim in the Mar Menor (San Javier), 40 kilometer bike and 10 run.
The women's European Cup will be on Saturday 26 and the male the following day.
