The Director General of Operations and Training Modernization of Agricultural, Ángel García Lidón, received yesterday at the Centre for Demonstration and Technology Transfer 'El Mirador' in San Javier, a delegation of managers and technicians from 16 countries in Central America and Caribbean interested in the field of agricultural technology Murcia.
This tour is focused on two missions Reverse Trade Promotion Plan of the Region of Murcia coordinated by the Ministry of Universities, Business and Research, through the Institute of Development and the Chamber of Commerce.
Lidón Garcia explained the development of irrigated agriculture in Murcia and the developments resulting from the transformation experienced by the area of Cartagena after the arrival of the Tajo-Segura, "which has become a dry zone near desert into a new landscape highly profitable crops, "said the CEO.
The director general said 'El Mirador' is an infrastructure of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water maintained by the three cooperatives of the Campo de Cartagena (San Cayetano, and Gregal Hortamira).
"Here are planned, along with researchers and technicians in the region, testing and experience to develop in each campaign," he said, so their results are then used by the partners in their decisions about which crops and agricultural technology can be more profitable to incorporate their holdings. He added that the center is specialized in developing advanced technologies for the cultivation of pepper in greenhouse and "has been a pioneer in the introduction of the California type varieties as an alternative to long Lamuyo type pepper, which was traditional in zone. "
In this regard, noted that in this culture "have been commissioned, among others, technologies for soil disinfection by solarization and bio-fumigation, hydroponics fertigation with different substrates and support by heating to increase heat prematurity."
It has also developed the Clean Agriculture of the Ministry, "to control pests and diseases through biological and biotechnological methods, in order to get the pepper plant completely free of waste."
Technology that has spread to 1,800 hectares of pepper in the area, of which 800 belong to members of the cooperative.
Vegetable trials
In addition, the Centre carries out tests on vegetable crops typical of Campo de Cartagena and use of biodegradable plastics, among others, as well as patterns and varieties of citrus, both outdoors and under cover of mesh.
Currently trials are conducted on artichoke varieties of seed and celery and iceberg lettuce.
Members of the delegation were interested in the price of irrigation water, the development of irrigated agriculture in the area and the costs involved in the final product application Clean Agriculture Program, among other topics.
The director general briefed them on the water balance of the region and its structural deficit of 430 hectometres, as well as progress in the use of treated wastewater to tertiary treatment and resources in a complementary manner provided by desalination.
The program also included a visit to the facilities and test plots of the Centre, as well as companies 'Seed The Chamber' and 'Agromediterránea', dedicated to the production and marketing of vegetables.
